WARA fulfills a public service function by providing radio communications and volunteers for events in and around the Victoria area. Volunteering for these events is an important aspect of your WARA membership.

Radio traffic is informal and requires little experience.


CARHA Hockey Pacific Cup Tournament (Radio Communications)

  • When: Friday Jan. 20 to Sunday Jan. 22,  2012
  • Where: 12 hockey rinks in the Greater Victoria area
  • 80 volunteer radio operator shifts to be filled.

Times-Colonist 10 k Run

  • When: Sunday April 29, 2012

  • Where: New route to be determined, Finish at BC Legislature
  • 32 radio operator volunteers required for checkpoints, control, runner pick-up
  • Updates 2012 are emailed directly to volunteers

Ride for the Disabled

  • First Sunday in October 2012, 0800-1330 Hrs.
  • Where: Metchosin EOC on Happy Valley Rd, and area trails in vicinity.
  • Up to 15 radio volunteers required. We meet at Metchosin EOC on Happy Valley Rd. Lunch is provided.

Victoria Marathon

  • When: Sunday October 7, 2012

  • Where: Start and Finish at BC Legislature, route around the water front into Oak Bay past the Yacht Club
  • 45 radio volunteers required for checkpoints, control, runner pick-up
